From Paralegal to Wedding Planner: My Journey to Entrepreneurship

Hello everyone! I’m excited to share my journey from working in the legal field to becoming a wedding planner. It’s been an unexpected but incredibly rewarding path. I get to celebrate love and devotion every day. I can truly say I found my passion, and I thank God for that.

A little bit about me: I was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland and moved to Colorado in 2006 when I was a junior in High School. I graduated my junior year and began college in Downtown Denver at the age of 17. I graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2012 with a major in English Writing and a minor in Criminal Justice. My dream was to be in publishing because reading books for a living sounded Ah-Mazing (still does.) Shortly after graduation, I began my career as a paralegal, specializing in criminal defense with a focus on death penalty cases. For about nine years, I dedicated myself to this intense and demanding field, honing my skills in communication, organization, and meticulous planning.

However, a personal milestone in 2013 changed the course of my professional life. While planning my own wedding, I discovered a passion for wedding planning. I was captivated by the creativity, attention to detail, and joy that came with orchestrating such a significant event. It was so much fun! Who would have thought that planning a wedding could be so fulfilling? Certainly not me, but it turned out to be a perfect fit for the Type A Planner that I am.

In 2014, at the age of 24, I took a leap of faith and started my first stint of entrepreneurship- a contract paralegal for the state. I had 3 years experience as a paralegal and kind-of got thrown into it.

Then, in January of 2020, I finally took the leap to starting my own business as a Wedding Planner.  The transition from full time employee to contract business owner to entrepreneur might seem unusual, but my background in law provided a strong foundation. The skills I developed as a paralegal, particularly in organization, time management, and client communication, transferred to wedding planning seamlessly. It was a tremendous learning experience. I immersed myself in everything from branding and marketing to taxes, bookkeeping, and customer service. Each day brought new challenges and opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally. It was a steep learning curve, but my passion for creating memorable and magical wedding experiences kept me motivated.

Today, I’m proud to say that my wedding planning company has flourished. In my first year, I became a 6-figure business. In my second year and third year, I had 5 employees and our wedding availability was sold out! I’ve had the honor of helping numerous couples from all over the world bring their dream weddings to life and each celebration is a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve poured into my business. My journey from the legal field to wedding planning may seem unconventional, but it’s a reminder that sometimes, our true calling is found in the most unexpected places.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. If you’re ever in need of a wedding planner who brings a unique blend of legal precision and creative flair, I’d be delighted to help make your special day unforgettable!

XOXO,

Michele
